Operation Threshold To Hold Open House for New Building

Waterloo –  Operation Threshold will be holding an Open House to celebrate the construction of its new central office building located at 1535 Lafayette Street, Waterloo.  The Open House will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2011, with a short program at 3:30 p.m.

Operation Threshold is the local Community Action Agency that serves Black Hawk, Buchanan, and Grundy counties.  The agency provides services such as Energy Assistance (the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program – LIHEAP), WIC, Weatherization, Housing and Fair Lending Counseling and Family Development services.

The original central office building (located at 300 West 3rdStreet, Waterloo) was flooded in June 2008 and since then the agency had been operating out of a smaller, temporary site.

“We are so excited about our new building,” says Executive Director, Barb Grant.  “Surviving the flood of 2008 and its aftermath was stressful for both staff and our clients, however, we now have the space to house our employees and equipment as well as provide quality customer service”.

In addition, Operation Threshold’s new Waterloo office building is the first agency up and running as part of the area’s Human Services Campus.  “It has long been a goal of many local human service agencies to develop a Human Services Campus in Waterloo,” adds Grant.  “It is hoped that more service agencies will move into the area and it will eventually become a place where clients can go to have many needs addressed in one location.”

Funding for the new building was obtained from grants from I-JOBS, the Black Hawk County Gaming Association, the Isle, and the City of Waterloo.  Additional funding was received from FEMA.  In addition, the City of Waterloo donated the land for the building, and Veridian Credit Union provided a loan for the project.
